Bio:
Prof. Ian Small FAA is an ex-ARC Centre of Excellence Director and ex-ARC Laureate Fellow in the School of Molecular Sciences at UWA. He is currently the UWA node leader for the ARC CoE Plants for Space, where his team focuses on production of nutrients, nutraceuticals and therapeutics in plants. His research interests are focused on the control of gene expression in mitochondria and chloroplasts, which in plants relies heavily on RNA processing (splicing, cleavage, exonucleolytic trimming and RNA editing). All of these processes involve sequence-specific RNA-binding pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) proteins that Ian has studied for 25 years.
